Remove the window screen and slide the window open.

Measure the window's width by taking measurements below the inside and outside stops. Subtract 1/4 inch from that measurement.

Measure the window's height and subtract 1/4 inch from it as well.

Measure the depth between the outside and inside window blind stops. The depth must be at least 3 1/4 inches in order for modern windows to fit into the rough opening.
