How to Attach Magnets to Crocheted Items
Crochet enthusiastsoften enjoy making elaborate and beautiful projects for the home such as afghans and comforters. While these projects are beautiful when they are finished, the time it takes to create them can be overwhelming. Choose a quick and easy crochet project to keep your crocheting fun and manageable. Make simple crocheted refrigerator magnets using a small amount of yarn and small adhesive magnets. Use either craft glue or a hot glue gun to attach the magnets to the backs of the crocheted items.
Things You'll Need
- Crocheted items
- Small adhesive magnets
- Craft glue
- Glue gun and glue sticks
Instructions

1
Finish crocheting the items according to the project directions. Plug the glue gun in if you will be using hot glue to attach the magnets.
-
2
Position the magnets on the backsides of the crocheted items. If a crocheted item is over 3 inches in size, use more than one magnet (spacing the magnets along the crocheted item to hold the item securely and evenly to the refrigerator).
-
-
3
Remove the paper adhesive from the magnets and temporarily affix the magnets to the crocheted items. Make sure you are satisfied with the magnet placement.
-
4
Apply either hot glue or craft glue to the adhesive side of the magnets. Apply a generous amount of glue.
-
5
Turn the magnets over so that the side with glue is facing down onto the crocheted item. Press the magnets firmly down onto the crocheted item in the desired location. Hold the magnets in place for 10 to 20 seconds to ensure the magnets are secure.
-
6
Allow the crocheted items to sit undisturbed with the magnets facing up while the glue dries. This is especially important if you're using craft glue. Wait for at least one hour for the glue to dry.
-
7
Test the magnet attachment by tugging on it lightly. If it holds securely, turn the crocheted item over and affix it to the refrigerator with the magnet(s).
