How to Put a Scooter Carrier on My Car

Scooters are fun toys to have for a ride around town. But once you're done with your trip, you'll need to pack your scooter for the drive home. One option is a scooter lift, which attaches to the rear of your vehicle via a tow hitch and lets you strap your scooter in for longer trips. This is perfect for cross-country jaunts or other long-distance travels. Installation is easy, too.

Things You'll Need

  • Class II hitch
  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Open-end wrench set
  • Scooter lift

Instructions

    • 1

Place the hitch underneath the rear of your car so that the receiver is pointing out towards the rear bumper.

    • 2

Lift the hitch into place on the rear of the car and loosely bolt it in place using the included hardware.

    • 3

Secure the hitch to the vehicle using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set. Depending on the vehicle, you may also need an open-end wrench to access the backside of the bolt.

    • 4

Lift the scooter lift with the help of an assistant and slide the mount on the scooter lift into the receiver hitch.

    • 5

Lock the lift into the hitch using the included pins. The lift is now installed on the vehicle; to load your scooter, just lower the bridge and roll the scooter onto the lift.
