How to Increase the Temperature Inside a Greenhouse
Using a greenhouse to grow plants, flowers and seedling is a hobby enjoyed by many. The avid greenhouse hobbyist knows just how tricky it can be to create an optimal greenhouse atmosphere in which to grow plants. Favorable growing results are dependent upon the inside environment of a greenhouse: while light and moisture levels play an intricate roll, temperature is the most critical. There are a variety of options available to help regulate and increase the temperature of your greenhouse. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use sunlight. If your greenhouse is portable, this is the first step to try to increase the temperature inside the greenhouse. Make sure the greenhouse is out of the shade and in a location where it is receiving the maximum amount of sunlight possible each and every day.
-
2
Use full jugs of water. Place jugs of water throughout the greenhouse that are painted in a dark color, preferably black. During the day they will absorb the heat from the sun and release the heat back into the air overnight.

3
Use lamps. Lamps (without shades) can help to raise the temperature inside your greenhouse. Scatter them throughout and turn them on. Florescent lighting tends to work the best.
-
4
Use a small space heater. You can use a regular space heater or one made specifically for greenhouses.
-
5
Use greenhouse heating mats. Place the mats underneath your trays or pots to help raise the temperature around the plants.
-
6
Use soil heating cables. Follow the directions to install them and your greenhouse and soil temperature will begin to rise.

Tips & Warnings
Beware that space heaters can remove moisture from the air--you will need to replace the lost moisture.
If using lamps, consider greenhouse heating lamps.
Before spending lots of money on special lamps, heaters or equipment to raise your greenhouse temperature, first try using natural sunlight and the jugs of water.
Heating mats and soil heating cables can be purchased where you find greenhouse supplies.
