Online selling has reached a level not seen before. There are mom and pop businesses as well as large companies that do business online. Most of the larger businesses have Affiliate Programs. You can utilize the myriad Affiliate Programs and turn this into a business into and of itself.

You can create your very on online Gift Shop and this article will list the steps to take to make this a reality.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you haven’t already you’ll need to develop a theme for your Gift Business. It’s ok to sell different types of products because that’s pretty much what a Gift Shop does; sell gifts.

Your target audience is the Internet however you’ll want to be a little more specific as to whom you will focus most of your marketing efforts on, such as a certain age range, location (which part of the U.S. or what countries you might want to focus on, other than the United States).

  2. Step 2

Research your competitors by doing an online search. What you are looking for is information than you can use for your business and what you might want to stay away from. Find the more successful online Gift Shops and model your business after these companies. Don’t copy what they have but put your own spin on it.

  3. Step 3

Calculate your cost, expenses, and the time you will need to invest daily to get your business off and running. The beauty of an online business is that you don’t need to hire anyone to run the shop because once it’s set up, your shop will run itself and it’s open 24/7.

  4. Step 4

Decide how your items will be shipped. If you want to split your profits there are online businesses like Café Express, and a few others that will do the shipping for you.

  5. Step 5

Make sure your website is up to speed. Make sure your website is easy to navigate, that is, it is “user-friendly.” A good website is always a “work in progress” but you don’t want it to look like it is ever “under construction.” What’s meant by your site "always being a work-in-progress" is the fact that almost daily you should be tweaking your site to maximize your profits. Therefore, if you are not designing and maintaining your own site, you need to be able to contact your web designer quickly, just in case a change or correction needs to be made expeditiously. Blatant mistakes on your Gift Shop website is equivalent to leaving the cash register open at a brick and mortar shop. Minimize mistakes at all cost because this indicates that your site is not professionally done and site visitors will quickly leave your shop and go elsewhere.
