Step 1
NO LIQUID. One of the most common mistakes people make with their laptop is carelessly leaving liquid such as water bottles, drinks, cups and other forms of liquid open and sitting near the laptop. It wouldn't take much to knock it over and spill all over your computer. When this happens, there is no going back. Within seconds of the water making contact with your laptop -- it can short circut many internal components of your laptop. When that happens, it won't take long until it burns out or shorts out and could possibly corrupt data saved on your laptop or may even fry it on the spot.
-
Step 2
NO EATING. Another fatal mistake people make with their laptops is eating over them. While you might have the drink else where, food can get stuck in your keyboard. You can use dust canisters to occasionally blow crumbs off your laptop but if something gets stuck in between the keys one night - you might have to remove the whole keyboard/motherboard to repair it.
-
Step 3
PROTECT THE MOINTOR. After all, the screen of your laptop is a *very* important. Try to clean it often and carefully. When cleaning your LCD monitor - be sure to use a lint-free cloth and spray the cleaner ONTO the CLOTH instead of the screen. This will prevent the liquid from dripping on the edge of the screen, sometimes it can get trapped and permanently ruin the LCD screen. Also, be sure that when you close your laptop down for the night that there are no pens, ear phones or any other objects that might puncture the screen of your laptop.
-
Step 4
NEVER LIFT THE LAPTOP BY THE SCREEN. I've seen this happen more than once, someone is in a rush and doesn't want to close down the laptop - instead they grab it by the LCD screen and pull it up. This is a fatal mistake. This can cause the screen hinges to become lose and possibly fall off. Also, it adds pressure to the screen can cause "spots" such as pressing on the liquid screen too hard.
-
Step 5
NEVER PULL THE POWER CORD. This is another common mistake made by laptop owners (myself included). Yanking out the power cord from your laptop instead of easily pulling it out can cause MAJOR damage to the power supply and may cause it to break off inside your computer. When that happens, you may have to pay up to $500 to replace the motherboard and/or the power supply outlet in your laptop. Try to keep your feet away from the cord to avoid accidentally pulling it out. You should also ALWAYS remove the power cord before moving the laptop. The weight and pressure of the dangling cord can also cause the power supply outlet to become loose.
-
Step 6
BY A COOLING FAN. One of the most common problems with laptops is overheating. This can ruin the motherboard and cause the whole laptop to die within a short period of time. By using a cooling fan, it will instantly draw the hot air blowing out away from the laptop and cool it down. Also avoid setting your laptop on cloth such as your bed where it can easily start to overheat. Make sure that your laptop ventilation is never covered and that the air can move smoothly out of it.
