Even during flu vaccine shortages, there are always places where you can get a flu shot. The seasonal influenza vaccine (flu shot) is typically offered from September to Mid-November, right before flu season starts. Your immunity should be strong within 2 weeks following the vaccination. Here’s how to get a flu shot:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call your family physician. If the doctor can't provide a flu shot, contact your local health department for info. Nearby hospitals and pharmacies may have what you're looking for - for a small fee. You can also try the mall.

  2. Step 2

Use an online Flu Clinic Locator. Just make sure to confirm the location, hours, and vaccine availability before heading to the clinic. Get your flu shot early every year, so you can avoid falling victim to vaccine shortages.

  3. Step 3

Check with your doctor before getting the flu shot. It's recommended for children 6 months to 19 years old, anyone over 50, pregnant women, and those at risk of serious complications from the flu (e.g., HIV sufferers).

  4. Step 4

Remember, the flu shot is not for everyone. Avoid the annual vaccine if you've ever had an allergic reaction to a flu shot, if you're allergic to eggs (chicken), if you've experienced Guillain-Barre syndrome, or if you have a fever.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get a flu shot yearly to protect yourself from new strains.
  • The seasonal influenza vaccine does not protect against H1N1.
