1. Do not go to a used car lot to find a cheap car. You may find a good selection, but the price of these vehicles is going to be much higher than if you had bought that same car from an individual.

2. Ask your family and friends if they have a car they can sell to you cheap. If they do not have one, ask them to keep their eyes and ears out for a cheap car that has low mileage. Toyota and Honda vehicles are great cars that are very reliable even ten years down the road.

3. If you are good at working on cars, look into buying a vehicle that has a few problems with it and would be cheap and easy for you to fix. People will sell otherwise reliable cars because they don’t want to fix a small problem. You could get thousands of dollars off what the price would be and it might only cost you a few hundred to fix.

4. Look on Craigslist and in your local classifieds. You are likely to find someone who just wants to get rid of a vehicle and is willing to part with it cheap. Make sure to always offer a slightly lower price than they are asking, and never buy a vehicle without popping the hood. These tips will save you overpaying on a car.
