Skin nodules are the most severe form of acne vulgaris. They can appear as large, firm lumps under the skin and can be painful and swollen. While eliminating mild to moderate acne is relatively simple, getting rid of acne nodules requires an effective method that will cleanse the skin gently, medicate deeply, and moisturize lightly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soap for sensitive skin
  • Benzoyl peroxide cream, 2.5 percent
  • Oil-free, sensitive skin moisturizing lotion
  1. Step 1

Wet the skin affected by nodules and lather the hands with a soap designed for sensitive skin. Apply the lather to the skin, spreading it around gently, then rinsing it off thoroughly with water. Using a soap designed for sensitive skin types will ensure that the skin will not be irritated or inflamed by the strong chemicals in commercially produced soaps. This will prevent the soap from exacerbating the nodular acne. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the soap onto the skin.

  2. Step 2

Apply a medicate benzoyl peroxide cream no stronger than 2.5 percent in concentration. Squeeze an amount of benzoyl peroxide cream roughly the size of a large pea onto a finger, then spread the cream evenly onto the area that contains the acne nodules. Use a gentle touch, and continue to spread the cream around until it has been completely absorbed into the skin. Using a benzoyl peroxide cream higher than 2.5 percent could cause severe irritation and inflammation.

  3. Step 3

Spread a dime-sized amount of an oil-free moisturizing lotion designed for sensitive skin types onto the affected skin. Use the fingertips, and lightly massage the lotion onto the skin until it has been absorbed as much as possible. Use only an oil-free lotion designed for sensitive skin so that it will not contain pore-clogging oils or harsh chemical ingredients and will not irritate the skin. Avoid rubbing the lotion into the skin. Using a light touch will spread the lotion enough for it to be absorbed without causing irritation.

Tips & Warnings
  • After a few weeks of these treatments, active acne nodules will be reduced and new nodules will not form.
