How to Build Laser Sight

A laser sight is a recent development in warfare and works by projecting a beam of light at the target that is to be fired at. The laser light can reach great distances and is powerful enough to be seen even when the target is very far away. It is not illegal to make or use a laser sight, so making one yourself will give you the opportunity to see just how exciting it is to use one.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws of the DVD burner using the Phillips screwdriver. Take the case top off. Pull out the disc tray and set it aside.

    • 2

Pull the laser assembly out from the two rails that it rides on in the carriage assembly. Remove all of the screws from the laser assembly with the jeweler's screwdriver to release the laser diode.

    • 3

Take the AixiZ laser housing and unscrew the two sides. Remove the electronic board and hold the laser diode at the end straight up. Remove the laser diode by tapping the back end of an X-acto knife against it. Pull out the laser diode and discard it.

    • 4

Insert the laser diode from the DVD burner into the contacts where the old laser diode was.

Solder a pin each onto the positive and the negative contacts at the bottom of the laser diode.

    • 5

Unscrew the battery cap from the maglite and remove the batteries.

Unscrew the other end of the maglite and remove the ring, the reflector and the bulb.

Place the laser housing around the reflector and draw a circle on the reflector with the permanent ink pen. Cut out a hole in the reflector the dimensions of the circle using the X-acto knife.

    • 6

Place the reflector around the laser housing and insert the laser housing into the maglite. Screw the ring back onto the reflector.

Put the batteries back into the maglite and screw the battery cap back on.

    • 7

Place the maglite at the top of your toy gun and mark its position with the permanent ink pen. Squeeze bonding glue onto the area at the top of the gun where the markings have been made. Hold the maglite against the top of the gun until the bonding glue sets.

    • 8

Pick up the toy gun and aim it at a target. Press the button on the maglite to direct a laser light at the target. Enjoy using your laser sight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use fresh batteries to provide the most power to the laser light.

  • The laser light can damage the eye so never look into it or aim the laser light at anyone's face.
