A CPAP machine can provide much-needed relief for those who are plagued by sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and snoring. The machines will push air from the machine and into a mask that is fitted over the nose and face. The force with which air is released from the machine and goes into the body is called the "pressure." This setting is usually prescribed by a doctor, and it is generally recommended that a CPAP user does not adjust this setting without consulting his physician first.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • CPAP machine
  1. Step 1

Turn off the CPAP machine and unplug from the wall.

  2. Step 2

Locate the dual "user" buttons on the machine. These may be found underneath the display screen, as in the case of machines made by Remstar and Resmed, the two largest CPAP manufacturers.

  3. Step 3

Hold down the user buttons simultaneously while plugging the machine back into the wall. This will prepare the unit to have the pressure adjusted. The word "setup," or "welcome" should appear on the LCD screen.

  4. Step 4

Use the menu button to begin moving through the setting options. Choose the option that includes the word "pressure." In the case of a Remstar, it says "CPAP Pressure."

  5. Step 5

Press the user buttons to move forward and backward to change the pressure settings, if using a REMstar machine. Follow the screen prompts, if using a ResMed machine. When you have reached the desired setting, press the menu button to exit the setup. The change will be saved.
