How to Draw Stick People in Sports

Most children learn to draw "stick people" before they learn to more accurately represent the human body. Stick people are easy to draw in any position, and doing any activity, because their physical details are so minimalistic and they do not need to be accurately proportioned. To draw a stick person participating in a sport, draw the stick person, then draw the ball-it's that easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a circle one inch in diameter. This is the head.

    • 2

Draw a stick poking from the bottom of the circle. This is the body.

    • 3

Draw a 2-inch vertical line at the bottom of the circle, protruding from the bottom of the circle.

    • 4

Draw 2 side-ways V-shaped arms just above the half way mark in the body (meaning, the V's will be on their sides). These will be the arms bent at the elbows. The V's will be attached at the same spot on the body, but one will be angled slightly differently than the other so they will be distinguishable from each other.

    • 5

Draw 2 side-ways V-shaped legs at the end of the body for the legs. The V's will be pointing in the opposite direction of the arms, so that they will appear to be bent at the knees, as if running.

    • 6

If the figure playing is playing a sport where the ball stays mostly on the ground (like soccer), draw the ball on the ground near the figure's feet. This may be represented with a circle at the feet of the figure.

If the figure is playing a sport where the ball stays in the air for the majority of the game (like volleyball), draw the circle of the ball in the air near the figure's head.

Tips & Warnings

  • To add to the illusion that your stick person is playing a sport, you may wish to draw several more people also participating in the sport to represent a "team".
