How to Finish With Minwax Antique Oil Finish

Sampson Quain

An oil finish can restore antique wood furniture or give older wood furniture new life by bringing out its natural luster. Minwax is a company that sells protective finishes and stains for wood furniture and hardwood floors. Minwax Antique Oil Finish is a stain-resistant protective finish with an oil base. It is used on finished or unfinished wood. Proper application of this finish requires two or three coats with a cloth or brush.

Step 1

Sand the furniture piece until its surface is smooth throughout. Wipe off any dust with a cloth dipped in mineral spirits, a high-grade solvent.

Step 2

Pour a liberal amount of Minwax Antique Oil onto a cloth or brush and apply in in the direction of the wood grain until you have coated the entire piece of furniture.

Step 3

Wait five to 10 minutes and buff the wood with a clean cloth.

Step 4

Apply a second coat of Minwax Antique Oil Finish 24 hours after the first coat and repeat the buffing process.
