Place a garden hook in the ground near the corner chosen for the lantern. A garden hook is a cast iron rod that is 4 feet tall, and at the top it has a hook for hanging things like citronella lanterns. Garden hooks are very easy to securely place into the ground, and they can easily be moved to a different location if you so choose. Make sure the hook is installed so that the lantern is hanging on the side of the rod away from the patio rather than toward the patio.
