While using your Kenmore Whirlpool washer, you may encounter times when the washing machine fills with water, but the agitator does not spin, or the wash basin fills up, but doesn't empty out, or it might not fill up at all. When this happens, you can disassemble your washing machine in just a few minutes with some fairly easy steps in order to determine the problem with the machine, and save yourself some time and the expense of having someone do the work for you.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Disconnect the electrical cord that runs to your Kenmore Whirlpool washing machine from the electrical outlet. Set the cord in a safe place.

  2. Step 2

Turn off the hot and cold water supply lines at the outlets. Detach the hoses from the outlet with a crescent wrench.

  3. Step 3

Locate the screws on the end caps of the washing machine console. Unfasten the screws by using a Phillips head screwdriver.

  4. Step 4

Slide the console forward and up to dislodge it from the tabs in the top of the washing machine. Flip the console over on its back and rest it on the hinges.

  5. Step 5

Unplug the electrical harness by hand, then place a flathead screwdriver inside the slot next to the clip on either side of the washer top. Pry back to release the clip, then repeat for the clip on the opposite side.

  6. Step 6

Slide the clip on either side of the console down and out of the console slot. Repeat for the clip on the opposite side.

  7. Step 7

Open the lid of the washing machine on top and hold the cabinet from the inside of the unit. Pull forward and dislodge the cabinet from the back of the washer. Lift the front cabinet up and away from the base of the washer and set it aside.
