How to Make a Sugar Plum Fairy Tutu
Make a sugar plum fairy tutu for a Halloween costume or a Nutcracker ballet performance by selecting several colors of tulle and attaching them to an elastic band. Sugar plum fairy tutus can be created to fit any size or body type. The more layers of tulle, the larger and more elaborate the tutu. Elastic holds the tutu in place and allows for weight fluctuation.

Measure the sugar plum princess around the waist to get an approximate measurement.

Purchase several yards of pink, purple and light blue tulle from a fabric shop or online. Also purchase a wide elastic, which will be used as a waistband.

Decide which color to place on top by matching it to the costume worn by the sugar plum fairy. The outfit looks more complete by matching the costume or leotard color to the top layer of tulle. Use the other colors for layering underneath.

Cut the elastic to the fairy's waist measurement. Sew the elastic together at the ends, so the finished product is slightly smaller than the waist measurement. The elastic needs some stretch in it to keep it in place.

Sew the tulle directly onto the elastic waistband. Start with the bottom layer of tulle. Keep adding layers until the tutu is the size you want it. The more layers, the fluffier the tutu. Build the tutu from bottom to top, with the top layer being the last addition to the tutu.

Cut the layers after sewn into place to create the hem you desire.

Glue rhinestones onto the top layer for a unique touch and a sparkly shine.
