Things You'll Need:
- Painters tape
- Claw hammer
- Circular saw
- Pry bar
- Chisel
- Sledge hammer
-
Step 1
Determine the distance from the top of the wood floor to the underlayment or sub-floor by tapping a chisel in between a floor joint with a hammer.
-
Step 2
Place a piece of painters tape on the chisel along the surface of the floor and then pull the chisel out of the joint. The distance from the bottom edge of the tape to the tip of the chisel is the depth you will need to set on the circular saw.
-
Step 3
Cut along the joints of the wood flooring using the circular saw. Set the level of the blade to the correct depth and then place the saw over a joint on the floor to begin cutting.
-
Step 4
Cut cross sections across the floor every 1 to 2 feet going through the joints. This will make smaller pieces of flooring that will be easier to remove.
-
Step 5
Remove a section of flooring by placing a pry bar in between a joint on the floor. You may need to tap it into the joint by hitting it with a hammer.
-
Step 6
Push down on the pry bar to force the section of floor up.
-
Step 7
Repeat the previous two steps until all of the flooring has been removed from the floor.
