How to Open a Rolex

Rolex, a Swiss company, is one of the leading manufacturers of luxury watches in the world. Many of their watches cost thousands of dollars because of the high quality of the brand and materials used in production. Taking one apart can be expensive because you must purchase specific tools designed for the task. Removing the back case to take a peek at the innards of the watch requires a special Rolex case opener wrench and a spring bar removal tool to take off the bracelet. Examples of such tools are in the Resources section.

Instructions

  1. How to open the back case of a Rolex

    • 1

Place the watch facedown on a soft surface to prevent scratching or damaging the watch.

    • 2

Use a spring bar removal tool to clamp down on the tiny visible springs that attach the bracelet to the watch. Once both sides of the springs are clamped down, pull off that side of the bracelet. Repeat for the other side of the bracelet.

    • 3

Select the appropriately sized wrench bits to open your Rolex. Notice the indents on the back of your watch. This is where the bits will fit to twist off the back case.

    • 4

Install the wrench bits into the wrench as determined by Step 3. Refer to the instructions included with the wrench for bit installation.

    • 5

Fit the three bits into the grooves into the back of the Rolex and apply enough pressure on the wrench to turn the case counterclockwise. Continue turning the wrench until the case opens.

Tips & Warnings

  • Removing the back case or modifying your Rolex watch will void the warranty.
