How to Record Streaming Music on Your Computer

Streaming music, which can come from an Internet radio station or an artist's website, isn't downloaded to your computer in order to be played. Your computer connects to a server to play the music, but the music is never on your hard drive. Because of this, you cannot save songs, unlike MP3 files. But you can record streaming music on your computer.

Adjust the settings of the files you are recording as you go along. Using the Settings menu of the program you are using for recording, adjust settings like volume and audio levels to make sure you are recording high-quality audio.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some computer manufacturers have disabled the ability to record streaming music on your computer's sound card. If the steps above do not work, your sound card won't record streaming music.

  • Recording streaming music on your computer isn't legal in some cases, depending on copyright restrictions for music on Internet radio stations or satellite radio feeds.
