How to Make Body Mists With Fragrance Oils

Making your own body mists with fragrance oils is a simple project. All you need is distilled water for volume, unscented alcohol for distribution and a selection of fragrance oils for aroma. The fragrance oils and unscented alcohol are combined to help distribute the scent evenly. The water is then added to dilute the scent and create a body mist. The only decisions you have to make are which fragrances to use and how much to use of each.

  • Vodka
  • Measuring cups

Instructions

    • 1

Clean and dry a plastic bottle with a spray nozzle lid. Make sure the nozzle can be set to a light spray, or you'll end up applying to much body mist.

    • 2

Create a light and tropical body mist by combining 1/4 cup vodka, seven drops orchid fragrance oil, five drops lime fragrance oil, four drops mango fragrance oil, three drops coconut fragrance oil, two drops pineapple fragrance oil and two drops banana fragrance oils in the plastic bottle. Secure lid and shake to mix.

    • 3

Add 1 1/2 cups distilled water to the bottle, secure lid and shake to mix.

    • 4

Test a light spray of the body mist on your wrist. Let the mist dry and evaluate the scent. Add more water, fragrance oils and/or alcohol as needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a wide selection of fragrance oils to create different body mists. You can mix any oils desired to come up with your own special fragrance. If you want an earthy scent, replace the fragrance oils listed with seven drops cedar, six drops sandalwood, four drops fresh grass, four drops rain and two drops pine fragrance oil.

  • Store your body mist in a cool and dry place. When scent fades from the mixture, you know it's no longer good. Remember to shake the bottle well to mix the ingredients before each use.

  • If you cannot find the fragrance oils you need, make sure you're checking the right section in the craft store. Fragrance and essential oils are the two basic types of scented oils available. Fragrance oils are synthetic and can replicate any scent. Essential oils are natural and can only replicate certain natural scents. Some scents, such as pineapple and banana, will only be available as fragrance oils, not essential ones.
