How to Install Grommets for Curtains

Installing grommets on curtain panels is made simple with grommet pliers, which function similar to a hole punch and are just as user-friendly. Grommet curtains are stylish and will easily complement casual, modern or traditional decor. Grommets are available over the Internet and at local fabric stores in a variety of sizes and finishes so you can transform ordinary curtain panels into extraordinary ones.

Things You'll Need:

• Grommet pliers
• Grommets
• Fabric pencil
• Measuring tape
• Sharp scissors

1. Determine how much space you want between the grommets, and measure and mark accordingly using the fabric pencil. Begin and end grommet placement 3/4 inch from each edge.

2. Cut a slit at each place you marked on the curtain for a grommet to allow the fabric to give when inserting the grommets. Make sure you don't cut the slit larger than the circumference of the grommet you are installing.

3. Insert the first grommet into the grommet pliers according to the manufacturer's instructions. Line up the pliers over the first slit, and squeeze firmly until the grommet is transferred to the fabric. Repeat with remaining grommets until all are installed.

• Choose grommets that match your curtain rod, such as gold, silver or bronze.
• Attach grommet curtains to the curtain rod using decorative rope, S hooks, shower rings or, if the grommets are large enough, slide them directly over the curtain rod.
