How to Do a Hard Reset on a Palm

There are two types of resets available on a Palm PDA (personal digital assistant). You can perform a soft reset or a hard reset. A soft reset simply turns the power to your Palm off and then back on while saving all of your data. A hard reset will erase all of the information stored on your Palm and reset the device to factory settings. Because a hard reset erases all of your Palm's information, performing the hard reset is a little more involved than a soft reset.

Instructions For Most Palm Models

1. Straighten out a paperclip.

2. Turn your Palm on and locate the small reset button which looks like a hole. The reset button should be located on the back of your device.

3. Press and hold the on/off button while you insert the end of your paper clip into the reset button hole. Just press the button once and remove the paperclip.

4. Release the on/off button.

5. Confirm that you want to erase all data when you are prompted by an onscreen message.

6. Locate the battery compartment and remove the cover.

7. Press the on/off button and hold it down.

8. Remove the batteries from your Palm, wait five seconds, and put them back in.

9. Let go of the on/off button.

10. Select "yes" when prompted by the onscreen message to "erase all data".

Tips & Warnings

• A hard reset will erase all data.
