How to Get Rid of Mold & Odors in the Cupboards
Kitchen cupboards are often dark, sometimes hold items that are liable to spoilage, can attract insects and might be damp. These are conditions that can spawn mold, and more often simply generate strange odors. Most kitchen odors are caused by bacteria, which is easy to clear up. Cleaning up a patch of mold requires a little more effort, but is still relatively straightforward. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Old rags
- Anti-bacterial kitchen cleanser
- Empty spray bottle
- White vinegar
- Borax
- Scrub brush

Remove and inspect each item in the cabinet. If you see any sign of a non-mold contamination or stain, spray the object with an antibacterial kitchen cleanser and clean it up. If it is moldy, spray it with white vinegar and wipe it off. If it is a pot, dish or cup, put it in the dish washer.

Make a mold-killing solution using 1 cup of borax for each gallon of water. A quart of water is better suited to cabinet cleaning, which means use a 1/4 cup of borax.

Scrub the moldy areas with borax. Let the scuzz of mold and borax mold-killer sit for a few minutes before you wipe it up with an old rag.

Clean the remainder of the cupboard by spraying it with antibacterial kitchen cleanser, scrubbing it and wiping it down with an old rag.

Leave the cupboard open to ventilate for a few hours before replacing the contents.
