How to Dress for a Mardi Gras Party
In the southern United States, Mardi Gras is the mother of all parties. Mardi Gras literally means "Fat Tuesday." It's the day faithful Catholics enjoy a little excess before entering into the fasting of the Lent season, which begins on a Wednesday. In some parts of the country, especially along the Gulf Coast, Mardi Gras means parades, moon pies and parties. If you've been invited to a Mardi Gras party, you have the perfect opportunity to dress fun and funky. Mardi Gras balls are formal and full of tradition, but the laid-back Mardi Gras party is casual and relaxed. Does this Spark an idea?

The Hat
-
1
Purchase a straw hat with a wide brim. It should fit your head snugly but not too tight. Use the glue gun and glue to attach feathers to your hat. Alternate the colors, green then purple, until you have glued feathers around the entire hat.
-
2
Clip the bead necklace in half with scissors. Glue the strands of beads around the underside of the brim. Attach the beads about every four inches, letting the necklace dangle down a good two inches, swag-style.

3
Around the crown of the hat, use glue to attach doubloons from parades. The doubloons should be green, gold and purple.
The Outfit
-
4
Use the glue gun to attach more feathers to the mask. Turn the mask upside-down, with the wrong side facing you. Glue feathers along the rim on one side. Let the glue dry, then turn the mask over. On the side where there are no feathers, glue some of the imitation jewels around the eye of the mask.
-
5
Wear comfortable pants, such as blue jeans, and a festive, brightly colored T-shirt. Wear socks and shoes that won't irritate you if you walk in a parade.
-
6
Wear Mardi Gras necklaces to accessorize your mask and hat.
