How to Fix a Loose Kitchen Sink Drain

If you have a leaky kitchen sink, there is no need to panic. The problem may be as simple as a worn-out or loose drain basket. If it is the drain basket, it's easy to fix. With a few spare minutes and a few simple tools, you can repair the drain in no time.

Things You'll Need

• Slip joint pliers
• Sealant
• Gaskets

Instructions

1. Place a large bowl under the pipe under the sink to catch any leakage. Turn your faucet on and determine where the leak is coming from.

2. Check the gasket to see if there is water leaking around the seal of your sink's drain basket. It is also possible that the sealant needs to be replaced. .

3. Loosen the slip nut using your slip joint pliers. The slip nut is at the basket and the pipe under the sink. Twist the gasket to remove it and take the strainer off.

4. Apply a thick bead of sealant under the lip of the strainer. Replace all gaskets you removed and any that were included in the sink drain basket. Put the slip nut back and tighten.

• Purchase a latex sealant that works well at Home Depot, along with your drain basket.

• Never leave your tools unattended around children.
