How to Clean the Inner Ear
Cleaning your pet's ears can done basically in the inner ear flap area, not the true inner ear, which can easily be damaged or infected. Basic cleansing of your pet's ears is necessary for pet hygiene and disease prevention. Remember that your pet's ears are extremely sensitive and require a gentle touch.

Apply Wash to Ear

1
Prepare or purchase an ear wash or oil and put it in an eye dropper or squeeze bottle. Make sure it is warmed to body temperature to most effectively remove wax and dirt.
-
2
Squeeze a few drops of the oil or wash mixture into your pet's ear as you hold the ear flap down. Hold it for a few seconds to ensure the oil or wash has sufficiently spread.

3
Gently wipe the inner ear flap with a sterile cotton ball. Do not go too deep into the ear, which may cause injury or infection.

4
To clean a dog's ears after it has been swimming in water with chemicals in it, simply take a soft cloth and gently wipe the inside and outside of the ears with it, making sure to use a gentle hand.

If your pet's ears look gritty, with coffee grind-type material inside the ear, do not attempt to clean it yourself. Take the animal to a veterinarian to ascertain if it is an instance of ear mites or another infection. If your pet is constantly shaking its head and scratching its ears, it's a good idea to have your pet examined by a veterinarian.

Tips & Warnings
Keep your pet's immune system strong by feeding it a balanced diet. Buy human-grade meat pet food, preferably organic, or in the best case, prepared yourself with unprocessed grains, unprocessed bone meal, vegetables and a small amount of grains.
Cleaning your pet's inner ear could cause irreversible injury, damage or infection, not to mention pain for the animal. Any deeper cleaning of the ear should be attended to by a veterinarian.
