An armoire or wardrobe dates back to before closets were common in the average household. Essentially it is a closed cabinet with shelves or a bar on which to hang clothing. You can remove clothes from the dirt and soot of daily life. Today, armoires are largely decorative but you can also use them for various kinds of storage. Hanging your clothes in an armoire is still an excellent and aesthetic option if you are short on storage space.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hangers
  1. Step 1

Hang each item of clothing on it's own individual hanger. If you have an antique armoire, use plastic hangers to keep from scratching or damaging the wood inside from constant sliding.

  2. Step 2

Keep the longest clothing (i.e. dresses, jackets) on one side or the other of the armoire.

  3. Step 3

Hang all the clothes you use the most in the central part of the armoire. Do not pack the clothes close together to avoid delays in finding what you need and to keep the clothes from getting wrinkled.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keeping cedar chips or a potpourri sachet in your armoire with your clothes will keep them from getting musty, particularly in humid climates.
