Step 1
Gather the information that must be included on your membership cards. For example, you might want to include the physical or online address of your club, the member's name, the name of the founder or president and any other relevant information. Create a list of your own ideas for your card and brainstorm your ideas with other members to help decide which type of card design fits your organization best. Sketch out design ideas in a sketchbook using markers or colored pencils to help you further create your card's appearance. For instance, you might want to create and add a symbol to your card that represents the purpose of your organization.

Step 2
Create your cards using a graphics program. Photoshop, Gimp and several other software packages offer the ability to create various types of designs for a variety of purposes including creating membership cards. After you have selected a program, click File > New. Set the width and height requirements for your cards. Choose a resolution setting of at least 200 pixels to achieve the best printed outcome. Name your document whatever you like and save it as a high resolution JPEG.

Step 3
Use layers to add different elements (text, graphics, photos) when you create your overall card design. The layers panel in most programs, like Photoshop, is found in the right-hand corner of your screen. For example, you might want to create a membership card for a wildlife society with the founder's picture on it. Open the photo in Photoshop and copy and paste it into your main document. It will automatically be placed on a new layer. You should then create another layer for each section of text you want to add, as well as additional layers for things like the organization's logo or a blank space where a member can sign their name. Save a copy of your final design to a CD for printing.

Step 4
Print your membership cards on your personal printer using a card template, such as those made by Avery, to print multiple copies of your card on the same sheet. Or have them printed by a print shop. Another alternative is to have your cards printed by an office supply store. Both Staples and Kinkos offer this type of printing service. Remember to ask about bulk printing price options if you will be printing a large number of cards for your members.
