Things You'll Need:
- Water
- Mulch
- Fertilizer
- Pruning shears

Step 1
Choose an ideal location for your palm. Mystic palms do best in 8 hours of direct sunlight each day and well-draining soil. If you are planting multiple palms, be sure to plant them at least 10 feet apart so that they have room to spread out.
-
Step 2
Mulch the base of the plant. Evenly spread a 6-inch layer of mulch around the base of your plant, stretching to the edge of the canopy. This step will keep the soil temperature low, conserve moisture, and prevent an onslaught of weeds.
-
Step 3
Water your mystic palm regularly. Young and newly planted palms should be watered 1 to 2 times per week. Mature, established palms should be watered heavily during periods of inadequate rainfall. Use an open hose to fully soak the base of your plant 1 to 2 times per month.
-
Step 4
Fertilize every 3 to 4 months. Add a slow-release fertilizer specially formulated for palms such as 12-4-12 or 13-13-13. Most palm fertilizers come in the form of pellets or spikes to be buried in the soil around the plant.
-
Step 5
Prune gently. Mystic palms recycle nutrients from dead fronds back into the core of the plant. Only prune dead or diseased leaves that hang below a parallel level to the ground. Take care not to tear the bark when pruning.
-
Step 6
Keep humidity high. If growing an indoor or potted palm, mist your plant daily with water. Keep in a greenhouse for additional humidity and rapid growth.
