How to Make Praise Streamers
Long, silky praise streamers swaying in the breeze add a beautiful touch of color and a tone of celebration to liturgical dances, music performances and worship services. Children and adults alike can enjoy waving their praise streamers through the air, making curves, circles, zigzags and other motions along with the beat and rhythm of the music. Because these streamers are easy to use and both easy and inexpensive to make, they are an ideal prop for music, dance and creative movement programs within the church.

1
Cut your ribbon to the desired length. For children, 3 to 4 feet is a good length; with practice, adults can handle streamers up to 16 feet long. Make your praise streamer with one wide ribbon or with many narrow ribbons of various colors.
-
2
Fold the fabric over twice on one short end of the ribbon, 1/4 inch each time. Pin the fold in place, and iron it. Use your sewing machine to sew a hem.

3
To make the casing, fold the fabric on the other end of the ribbon over 1/4 inch. Pin it in place, and iron the fold. Fold the fabric 5/8 inch, encasing the smaller fold inside so you have a clean, finished edge. Pin, and iron the fold. Sew a straight seam 1/2 inch from the edge of your fabric.
-
4
Use your drill and 1/8-inch drill bit to drill a hole into the round, flat end of your dowel rod or shaker peg.
-
5
Lay the snap swivel over the drilled hole, holding it so the opening of the snap swivel is over the hole. Screw the eye screw through the opening in the snap swivel and into the hole in the dowel rod. The eye screw is wider than the snap swivel and will hold the snap swivel in place.
-
6
Cut a 3-inch piece of fishing line. Push it through the casing in the ribbon, and knot it two or three times, forming a loop at the end of the ribbon.
-
7
Attach the loop of fishing line to the snap swivel.

Tips & Warnings
Find snap swivels in the fishing gear area of a department store.
Instead of making your own loop out of fishing line, use a plastic ring such as a shower curtain ring.
