1
Place your tablecloth or fabric on top of your table, and pull it so it is even on all sides. Measure about four inches starting at the top of the overhang by starting your measuring tape anywhere you'd like. Press the metal hook of your tape measure down on the edge of your table as you hold it in place. Mark the four-inch mark with a fabric marker. Move the measuring tape over about a foot, and repeat until you end up where you started.

2
Take your tablecloth off of the table to do another set of measurements. Start at one of the four-inch marks you just drew. Measure an inch below the mark, and place another mark below it. Do this at every mark until you end up where you started.

3
Cut at the one-inch mark. Cut the fabric strait moving the scissors from one of the marks to the next, until you end up where you started. Remove the piece of fabric you just cut off.
-
4
Turn the fabric over with the design side down. Bring the edge of the fabric up to meet one of the four- inch marks; you can still see the mark. Pin the fabric into place. Continue all around until you finish where you started. Sew where you pinned the fabric, and stop to leave an inch-size hole to pull the elastic through.
-
5
Lay out your elastic. Use enough elastic so that it pulls the cloth tight but not too tight. Feed your elastic through the pocket you just sewed with a safety pin. Attach the two ends of the elastic together with the safety pin, and place your tablecloth on the table for the initial fitting. Determine if you need more or less elastic for it to fit tight and snug.

6
Attach two pieces of elastic by sewing them together. Repeat step 5 until it fits. Sew the two safety pinned ends together. Sew the hole shut. Wash it to remove the fabric marks, or use a wet sponge. When your tablecloth is dry, place it on your table, smooth it out and set your table.
