How to Remove Rust on Weights
Removing rust from barbells or other weights isn't easy, but with a rust-removal product and a little bit of elbow grease, you will be able remove rust that has accumulated on your weights. Does this Spark an idea?

Remove weight plates from the bar (if applicable) and wipe off the weights and bar with a clean cloth.

Rub the surface of the weights and bar with sandpaper or steel wool to remove as much of the flaked rust as possible.

Select a commercial rust-removal product. There are dozens to choose from, such as Boeshield T-9 Rust Protection Cleaner and RustAid Rust Remover. There are also a number that are less toxic, such as Magical Rust Remover by Back to Nature.

Put on rubber gloves and work in a well-ventilated area.

Apply the cleaner on the rusted weight surface. Scrub the rust off and then
wipe off the weights with a clean cloth. -

Use vinegar and baking soda if you don't want to use a commercial rust-removal product.
Pour vinegar directly onto the rusted weight surface and scrub the rust off with sandpaper or steel wool, and then wipe it off with a clean cloth. Or, create a paste with baking soda and water and rub it on the rusted area of the weights. Let it sit for awhile, then clean it off with a clean cloth.
