How to Dye Material to Make Worship Flags
Dye worship flags to make them unique and individual. Create art and express vision for where your congregation is heading by dying silks or other fabric to match the feeling you have. Dye fabrics in separate processes to avoid blending of colors and create dynamic patterns.

1
Pray over the flag dying process first. Wait on God to see if you get a feeling, vision or idea about what to create. Be creative in your listening and determine themes by what you hear or feel. Decide to do a freedom flag if you see something like an eagle or an American flag, for example. Based on what you see, determine which colors would match the sense you are trying to express.

2
Make a plan for the different colors you intend to use. Instead of dying a white flag to a solid yellow first, consider purchasing yellow material then dying the additional layers into the yellow fabric.

3
Wash fabric before dying, if possible. Obviously, avoid putting silk in the washing machine.
-
4
Follow the instructions on the dye purchased. For hot dying, bring a pot of water to boil and add dye.

5
Place only as much of the fabric into the pot as desired. Dip the bottom or top of a flag to make horizontal or vertical sections. Use an eye dropper to create streaks. Keep in mind that dye will hold wherever it is placed, if left long enough.

Let the fabric fully dry. Add more colors if a blended look is desired.
