How to Upgrade a Hotel for Free at Disney
A free hotel upgrade is the epitome of a Walt Disney resort perk to most travelers. Checking into a hotel and receiving better accommodations than those that you paid for can be a rewarding experience, but it requires a great deal of politeness. "Ask and ye shall receive" is the general rule with Disney, but, even in the "House of Mouse," an upgrade request might not be granted. Room upgrades also vary in specifics and can range from improving the room's view to improving the size of a room.

Checking In
-
1
Check in as early in the day as possible to ensure the likelihood that possible upgrade rooms haven't been booked.
-
2
Show the desk clerk your photo identification, credit card and booking confirmation.
-
-
3
Know what you want before you ask for it. If the clerk offers you a free "garden view" upgrade, for example, know what that means and if it would be an improvement for you.
-
4
Ask in a polite tone if there are any free upgrades available.
-
5
Respond to the clerk's answer politely, whether you have been granted or denied an upgrade.

Tips & Warnings
Do not argue with hotel employees if they deny an upgrade. Causing a scene will not endear you to the management during your stay and will probably defeat your chances for upgrades during future stays on Disney property.
Do not assume that you will receive a free upgrade if you ask for one. Such occurrences are deemed rare by Disney veterans.
