How to Find Star Rated Motels and Hotels

Motel and hotel ratings are bestowed by consumer organizations and travel groups, which consider factors such as customer service, accommodations, cleanliness and updates to the facilities. Searching for hotels by star rating helps you judge the value of your stay beforehand.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the website address of a travel aggregator, such as Expedia, into your Internet address bar. Click "Hotels" along the top of the screen to narrow your search for hotels.

    • 2

Type the location of where you need a hotel. Enter the dates of your stay. Information such as the number of rooms needed and how many adults/children are staying is optional but will result in a more-specific search.

    • 3

Click the "Additional options" link, which brings a drop-down menu where you can select from the number of stars the hotel/motel should have. Click the "Search for hotel" button. This will result in a list of hotels in your preferred area with the number of selected stars or higher.

    • 4

For a broader search, another simple way to search for star-rated accommodations is to open a search engine, such as Google), and in the search box, type the number of star ratings you want your accommodations to have, such as three stars, a plus sign and the name of the city you are traveling to. To wit: "three star hotels" + Raleigh. This will result in a long list of results, but could serve as a good starting point.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your resulting list of hotels is too long, further sorting is possible. Select "Sort by star rating." This will sort the list from fewest starts to highest. For example, if you selected "Three stars or higher," all the hotels rated three stars will appear in the list before the hotels rated four or five stars.

  • Each travel engine's website wording and layout will be slightly different but with these steps, you should be able to find the star-rated hotels quickly and easily.
