How to Remove Water Film From Lexan Boat Windows

Lexan boat windows sometimes retain water as a surface film; the water doesn't run down the window like glass or Plexiglas. Normally, this isn't a problem; but if you're bringing your boat into a brilliantly lit marina at night in a light rain, the water will prevent you from making an accurate visual assessment of any situation in which you may find yourself. This means you may suffer a head-on collision with another boat because the water on the Lexan effectively blinded you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Folded cloth diaper
  1. Step 1

Use a freshwater hose to rinse the windows -- use a lot of running water. This will remove any salt spray that may be on the windows as well as any trash or debris that may scratch the surface of the Lexan.

  2. Step 2

Position the cloth diaper at the top of the window on either side. Always work from top to bottom on a boat's windows, never from side-to-side.

  3. Step 3

Draw the folded diaper downward in a single sweep. Make the sweep the length of the window, without hesitation or stops in the middle of the window.

  4. Step 4

When the diaper reaches the bottom of the window, turn the diaper over. Return to the top of the window, one diaper-width from the previous pass.

  5. Step 5

Draw the diaper downward. Repeat as often as necessary, working from one side of the window to the other in passes as wide as the diaper.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use any chemical cleaner on Lexan. If you have to clean the window, use a mild soap and fresh water.
