Instructions

    • 1

Sit the top loin steak out at room temperature. Allow the loin steak to sit out for 30 to 60 minutes before placing it on the grill. This allows the steak to cook evenly.

    • 2

Prepare your grill for the steak. Clean the grilling grates with a grill brush. This removes dirt and debris from the grill that may affect the taste of the steaks.

    • 3

Ignite your grill by either lighting the charcoal or turning the gas grill to high. A charcoal grill will take 30 minutes for the coals to be ready, whereas the gas grill will take 10 to 15 minutes to preheat.

    • 4

Begin preparing the steak. Remove any excess fat with a sharp knife.

    • 5

Combine salt and pepper in a mixing bowl. Use your hands to rub the seasonings onto the both sides of the top loin steak.

    • 6

Brush olive oil on the grill grates. This will prevent the steak from sticking when you place the steak on the grill.

    • 7

Adjust each side of the grill. Rake the coals over to one side of the grill, leaving one layer of hot coals on one side and a double layer of coals on the opposite side. Turn one side of the gas grill down to medium high heat.

    • 8

Use tongs to place the loin steak on the hottest side of the grill. Sear both sides of the steak for 2 minutes if your steak is 1 inch thick. Do not sear if the steak is ¾ inch thick or less to prevent drying the steak out. When searing the loin steak, close the grill lid to contain the heat.

    • 9

Move the top loin steak to the coolest part of the grill. Cook the steak to your desired taste. The amount of time to cook the steak will depend on the steak's thickness. A 1-inch steak generally takes 6 to 7 minutes to cook to medium doneness.

    • 10

Remove the steak from the grill. The recommended internal temperature for a steak is 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If you grill a steak medium its internal temperature will read 125 to 130 degrees.

Tips & Warnings
