How to Lift a Car Tire
Getting a flat tire can quickly ruin a good day. If you discover that your car has a flat, it is important to safely stop driving on the damaged tire as soon as possible, to prevent further damage to the rim of your tire, as well as to prevent driving in an unsafe manner. To remove the tire and replace it with a new one, it is important to ensure that you follow the proper safety measures when lifting the tire.

1
Stop the car on flat ground. Jacking a car on uneven ground can cause the jack to break, which can be very dangerous.
-
2
Place a brick or tire wedge under the tires not being lifted, on the side opposite the lifted tire. If you are lifting a rear tire, you would want to put the wedge or brick snug against the front of the front tires, for example.

3
Position the jack underneath the car's frame. If your jack has a slit cut into the top of it, you will be looking for a piece of metal frame, which fits the slit. If your jack has a broad, flat top, you will be looking for a portion of frame near the tire that matches the top.
-
4
Insert the jack handle into the jack. The jack will have a slot on a rotating piece which matches the end of the jack handle.
-
5
Rotate the handle to cause the jack to extend upwards, and continue jacking until the tire is entirely off the ground, and can be freely spun with light pressure.

Tips & Warnings
If you are removing the tire that is being lifted, loosen the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench before lifting the car. Attempting to loosen the nuts after the car is raised will be difficult, as the tire can spin with you as you try to turn them.
