How to Decorate With Chaise

Decorating a room with a chaise is just as simple--or difficult, depending on your perception--as decorating a room with any other pieces of furniture. Incorporating a chaise into a room does allow for certain kinds of decor as a chaise adds a comfortable lounging area. The style of chaise will also impact the way you decorate around it as they come in contemporary styles, sophisticated leather, heavy wood-trimmed pieces, over-stuffed or any other style imaginable. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Draw attention to your chaise, making it a focal point by creating a corner or area in the room designated for the chaise and activities that you'll use it for, such as reading or relaxing. Use an area rug under the chaise to affirm its position in the room. A sleek chrome and black leather contemporary chaise would look perfect over a thick white rug, while a wood and floral patterned overstuffed chaise might look better over a Victorian or country-style rug, depending on the pattern in the chaise and the rest of the room's decor.

    • 2

Add a small accent table by the chaise. Decorate the table with a useful lamp for reading and decorative accessories, such as candles or flowers. The table will also be useful to store items that are frequently used when you use the chaise, such as a book you're reading, reading glasses, a notepad and pen or phone.

    • 3

Lay a throw blanket over the foot of the chaise and a comfortable but decorative pillow at the back. Place it carefully to look like it was tossed there as an afterthought. This will make it feel more welcoming and relaxing. Modern or contemporary decor, however, may not fit in with adding a throw.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use decorative accessories that fit in with the rest of the room's decor. Decorating around a chaise is the same as with any other chair, sofa or loveseat.

  • Measure the room before purchasing or placing a chaise. Overcrowding a room with extra furniture will lead to a cluttered space. You won't fully enjoy the calm, relaxing perks of a chaise in an overstuffed room.
