Use an area rug under the chaise to affirm its position in the room. A sleek chrome and black leather contemporary chaise would look perfect over a thick white rug, while a wood and floral patterned overstuffed chaise might look better over a Victorian or country-style rug, depending on the pattern in the chaise and the rest of the room's decor.
