How to Season a Waffle Griddle

After every cleaning, it is important to season your waffle griddle, also known as a waffle iron, to ensure the iron's longevity and that you make a successful batch of waffles each time you use your iron. Seasoning a waffle iron is not very different from seasoning other pots and pans and requires no special tools or solutions. Although a seasoned iron will help waffles not stick to the surface, it is not a substitute for proper greasing or cooking spray use before batter is poured into the waffle iron. Tips & Warnings

  • Don't use olive oil to season your waffle iron. The high temperature will cause the oil to smoke.
