How to Raise Aloe Vera Plants?
Having aloe vera plants around is a great way to spruce up any decor, as well as having a natural first-aid kit right in you living room. Mature aloe plants have plenty of shoots that need to be taken out of the pot. These baby shoots will suck all the water away from the mother plant, killing it. You might as well repot them, giving yourself some extra plants--and burn ointment. Does this Spark an idea?

- Terracotta pot
- Potting soil
- Cacti coil
- 1/2 cup coarse sand
- 1/2 cup granite grit
- 1/2 cup perlite
- Spade
- Water

Pour the potting soil and the cacti soil into the terracotta pot. Make sure the pot has a hole in the bottom to allow drainage. Pour in enough soil so that a little less than half of the pot is full. Use the spade to mix the soil together.

Add the sand, granite and perlite to the pot and mix around.

Place the aloe into the pot. If it is a new shoot from a motherplant, first remove any dead or dying leaves. Then cut the stem about two inches below the green part of the plant. Peel off the "skin" on the stem so that the stem is green and smooth. Place the shoot into the pot.

Cover with a little soil. Water so that the soil is soaking wet, but do not water again for two weeks.

Keep the pot in direct sunlight. Once the new aloe has a new shoot, just repeat the process.
