How to Make a Frog Cupcake Cake

  1. Step 1

Bake 20 cupcakes in any flavor according to package instructions. Allow cupcakes to cool completely.

  2. Step 2

Prepare your icing. Divide white buttercream icing into four unequal parts. Color the largest amount dark green, using a generous amount of green food color. Use less color to make the second bowl of icing a lighter green. Leave the third portion white. Color the final, smallest portion of the icing black.

  3. Step 3

Arrange cupcakes on a rectangle platter or cake board to create the frog's shape. First, make a solid circle in the center of the board using 10 cupcakes. Place three cupcakes at an angle on either side of the circle to create legs. Place a single cupcake at the end of each leg to create a foot. Finally, place two cupcakes at the top of the circle to create bulging eyes.

  4. Step 4

Once you have a shape you like, secure each cupcake to your board with a small amount of buttercream.

  5. Step 5

Using an offset spatula, ice the main body, legs and feet with dark green icing. Ice the eyes with white buttercream.

  6. Step 6

Ready one pastry bag with a star tip and fill with light green icing. Carefully outline the frog's eyes in light green. Add outline details, spots or decoration to the entire cake using light green icing.

  7. Step 7

Place a round tip on the second pastry bag and fill with a small amount of black icing. Draw a wide, smiling mouth through the center of the cake's main body. Create pupils by squeezing a small amount of black icing near the bottom of each of the white cupcake that make up the eyes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use green cupcake liners to add a splash of color to the sides of your cake.
  • Bake cupcakes in advance and store them, un-iced, in an airtight container.
