Begin by brainstorming your ideas. Make a list of topics you want your flier to address. Creating a comparison "yes" and "no" list on you flier is one way to contrast the stances of your candidate against others in the race.
Research your subjects to be certain you are including the most up-to-date data and statistics available. For instance, if you want to include a statistic about unemployment, be certain to go to a reliable source like a government report to confirm your statement. Remember to offer a reference section in small print to back up your assertions. Also, selecting two or three colors to use in your flier is best, rather than using an array of colors. Most professional forms of advertisement, including logos, banners and fliers, will stick with a particular color scheme. If your candidate is associated with a political party, consider using the color generally associated with that party, as well as any other identifying markers, such as mascots or slogans.

Select a quality graphics program to create your political flier. Photoshop and the freeware program GIMP are particularly useful in creating fliers because you can utilize the layers panel to add and fine tune separate elements (text, graphics, photos) within your overall design.
Begin creating your flier's design by opening a new document. To do this go to "File" and then select "New."Choose the width and height you want your flier to be and plug these numbers into the dialog box. Next, plug in the resolution (generally at least 300 pixels is best). Save your document as a high-resolution JPEG after naming it.

Bring in any external graphics (including photos) that will appear on your flier. To do this open the image. Then go to "Edit" then select "Copy." Now go back to the original document, select "Edit" and click "Paste." Any image you bring in will automatically be on a layer of its own.
When you create other elements in the program, including text or other graphics that you've drawn, you will need to click on the icon that says (when you hover over it) "New Layer." By using layers you will more easily be able to edit each section of text and make changes, such as resizing or repositioning an element without that change being applied to every element within your overall document. Remember that it is important to provide other details to the public, some of which is required by law, such as who approved an ad. If your flier is being paid for by, for example, a political action committee, it is important to disclose this information.

Print your fliers on an office printer or have them printed by someone else. Generally for a political campaign flier you will have your fliers printed by a print shop or office supply store. To do this you need to save a copy of your design to a CD and leave it with the printer. Be certain to compare bulk printing prices when selecting a printing services for your fliers.
