How to Watch Movies on a DS
The Nintendo DS (NDS) is a popular portable gaming device. As compared to other devices though, such as Sony's PlayStation Portable, it has not always been as versatile as a media device. Playing movies, for example, involves additional hardware and software, like MoonShell.

- Hardware:
- Nintendo DS
- NDS card
- Software:
- Movie file
- Moonshell
- Program to convert movie files into .dpg format (such as Batch DPG)
- AviSynth
- ffdsshow

Playing Movies on the Nintendo DS

Purchase an NDS card, such as an M3DS, R4DS, or CyclosDS Evolution.

Install MoonShell onto your NDS card. Download the MoonShell media player software on your computer. Insert your NDS card into your computer. Choose the card as the destination for MoonShell and click "OK." Click "All Clear" and tick off the box for the type of card you are using. MoonShell with install on your card. When complete remove the card and plug it into your DS.

Convert movie files into MoonShell format (.dpg) using an encoder such as BatchDPG. Install and then open BatchDPG. You will see a screen with several dialog boxes. Click the "Input" section and browse for the movie you'd like to convert. Add any subtitle tracks if needed.
Click "Run."

Copy the converted movies onto the NDS card containing MoonShell. Insert your NDS card back into your computer. Create a folder on the card for your movie, something along the lines of "media" or "movies."

Place the NDS card into your DS. Launch MoonShell, watch your movie.
