How to Treat With Graviola

Graviola, a tree that grows in the tropical regions of North and South America, has been touted as a cancer-fighting herbal remedy. A 2001 study published in the Journal of Natural Products reported that graviola contains several compounds found to be toxic to human liver cancer cells. Traditionally, graviola has been used to treat many different conditions, and all parts of the plant are employed. For cancer, a strong graviola tea may be the most effective treatment method.

    • Graviola leaf or powder
    • Cup
    • Strainer
      • 1

Bring 4 cups of water to boil in a medium-sized pot. Reduce heat to low and wait until the water stops boiling.

      • 2

Add 2 tsp. of dried graviola leaf to the water, cover and let simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. If you have graviola powder, use 1 tsp. You can find graviola at vitamin and health food stores and from many online retailers.

      • 3

Stir occasionally. Do not let the water boil, as that may destroy some of the potent compounds in the graviola.

      • 4

Strain the graviola leaf out of the hot water. Drink one to three cups of graviola tea a day.

      • 5

Continue drinking graviola tea on a daily basis. Discontinue use or reduce dosage if adverse effects develop.

    Tips & Warnings

    • According to the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, compounds in graviola can cause neurological symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease. Graviola has been shown to have blood-pressure-lowering properties and should not be used by people with low blood pressure. Graviola also can stimulate uterine activity and should not be used by pregnant women.
