How to Change a Bissell Bag
When a sweeper bag overfills past the manufacturer's recommended level, sweeper performance suffers. Bissell sweepers with full bags do not clean as efficiently or deeply as those with clean, empty bags. Full bags can also cause dirt and allergens to be redistributed on furnishings, curtains and ledges. When a bag becomes too full, to the point of bursting, an eruption can occur. If this happens, dirt can spew all over surrounding surfaces and into the air. Fortunately, most Bissell models come complete with a bag change indicator. When the light turns on, it is time to change the bag. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the vacuum cleaner and move it to a location that can be easily cleaned if a spill occurs. Hard surfaces such as linoleum and tile often work best. If possible, remove the vacuum cleaner to a location outside or in the garage to prevent allergens from entering the air in your home.
-
2
Remove the vacuum door and set it aside where it will not be broken. Once removed, you will be able to see the vacuum bag.

3
Pull the square connective cardboard down and away from the connector tube in a slow, fluid motion. Clean up any excess dirt that falls out of the connector tube or the top of the sweeper bag. Check the bag compartment for any stray dirt or debris.
-
4
Place the full sweeper bag into the garbage bag and seal the bag tight before throwing it away. Consider moving the bag to an outside garbage receptacle to prevent dust and allergens from filtering into your home.
-
5
Locate the square connective cardboard on the new sweeper bag. Place the connective cardboard against the tube of the vacuum cleaner. Align the opening with the connector tube, and push firmly into place.
-
6
Position the new sweeper bag inside of the bag compartment on the sweeper. Replace the cover, taking care to align the bottom tabs with the slots on the sweeper. Plug in the sweeper. Turn on the sweeper and test the suction. Recheck the bag placement if there is any loss of power or if dust sprays.

Tips & Warnings
There are several types of sweeper bags that you can purchase for your Bissell sweeper. Microfiltration bags are recommended for those with allergies or sinus conditions. They prevent dust and allergens from entering the air while you are sweeping. Dust bags have less allergen-reducing capabilities, but they are the less expensive option.
