How to Compress a DVD Movie onto a Hard Drive
Storing DVDs onto a hard drive is an excellent way to store the movies for archival purposes. DVD downloading programs compress the DVDs into videos for you to enjoy later without a need to place the movie in the computer. You can use these DVD downloaders to rip, compress and store your home DVDs in a format that you can access later.

Tips & Warnings
Do not compress DVDs that are not owned by you, as this is illegal. Most DVD software will not be able to bypass the protection placed on commercial movies anyway.
