How to Find a Dentist for Dentures

Finding a dentist for dentures is easier than you might think. Although specialized dentists called prosthodontists can make your dentures, a recent TheWealthyDentist.com survey of general dentists revealed that over 90 percent of general dentists make their patients' dentures in-house, instead of referring to a specialized dentist. Many general dentists claim to deliver better service to their patients because of in-house services and special staff dedicated to dentures.

Instructions

    • 1

Check with friends, co-workers, neighbors and relatives about how they found a local general dentist or a local prosthodontist. Search local community resources, such as local churches or synagogues (health providers such as dentists frequently advertise in church bulletins or newsletters). Local health clinics run by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration also offer dental services.

    • 2

Search for a general dentist or a prosthodontist by using online resources such as the ADA's Find a Dentist search tool. You can also find local dentists who make dentures by searching your state dental society for general dentists or prosthodontists in your area.

    • 3

Call your dental insurance provider, and ask for a list of local dentists who are in your insurance provider's network. You may also call your medical insurance provider. If the dentures are necessary for a medical reason (such as traumatic injury to the mouth or sudden tooth loss because of an accident), occasionally, your health insurance provider can refer you to a dentist for dentures. Contact information for your providers is available on your insurance card or on your provider's website.
