How to Level Up a Sorceress in Diablo 2

Diablo II is a popular action role-playing game for PC produced by BIizzard Entertainment. Diablo II allows players to control a single hero and battle the minions of the demon Diablo in order to gain experience levels and powerful items. The sorceress is one of the character classes that players can choose as their hero. Leveling up a sorceress character effectively requires spending attribute points and skill points well and playing to the strengths of the class.

Instructions

    • 1

Boot up Diablo II. Start with the new sorceress character on the first quest of the game. When you start a new game of Diablo II, you should get the den of evil quest. Run out of town and start killing monsters with your basic fire bolt spell and staff as you search for the den of evil (it looks like a little cave in the ground). By the time you clear the cave of monsters and return to town, you should have gained a few levels.

Spend your attribute points as you level up on energy and stamina. Energy determines how much mana the sorceress has, and most of her abilities require a lot of mana to use. The sorceress does not need much strength or agility.

    • 3

Continue advancing through the game and killing monsters, focusing on using your spells and avoiding hand-to-hand combat.

    • 4

Spend the skill points that you get as you level up on skills within the same "skill tree." There are three sorceress skill trees: fire, lightning and ice. By focusing on only one tree, you will be able to increase the power of the spells within that tree much faster and gain access to the best abilities as soon as possible.

    • 5

Utilize powerful area-of-effect abilities to kill monsters in mass quantities and gain levels faster. Spells that hit many enemies at once are especially useful for killing large groups of enemies and gaining experience quickly. For the fire tree, hydra meteor and firewall are effective. For the ice tree, blizzard, ice orb and frost nova are good area damage spells, and for the lightning tree, lightning, chain lightning and thunderstorm are the best area-damage spells.

    • 6

Kill monsters in Act 4 until you reach level 30, then progress to the next game difficulty level (nightmare) and play through the game again. As you play through the game, you will get different amounts of experience from different acts based on your current level. It is best not to advance to nightmare difficulty too soon because the monsters will be hardest to kill and the experience gain will be sub-optimal.

    • 7

Progress through nightmare difficulty and kill monsters in Act 4 until level 60. Then, play through hell difficulty. Hell is the highest difficulty level, so the best you can do is kill monsters in Act 4 of hell difficulty to achieve the maximum level of 99.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have the expansion for Diablo II, killing monsters in Act 5 will help you gain experience a bit faster than Act 4 monsters.

  • Carrying many mana potions is a good idea, so that you never find yourself out of mana.

  • In general, the higher level abilities do more damage than lower level ones, so it is a good idea not to spend too many skill points on skills that are earned early on.
