How to Stop Termite Damage
Termites are one of the most feared pests for a homeowner. Termites can compromise the structural integrity of your home before they are detected. While the damage done to wood by ravenous termites may be irreversible, there is one way to stop the damage from continuing: You must kill the termite colony. Does this Spark an idea?

Liquid Treatments
-
1
Use a liquid termiticide to create a barrier around your house. You can either use a termiticide that acts as a repellent, or one that kills termites when they come into contact with the chemical.
-
2
To create the barrier, inject liquid termiticide completely around your home. If the termites you are dealing with are ground dwelling (as are 90 percent of termites in the United States), the termiticide will cut off the vast network of underground tunnels the termites have created that lead to your home.
-
-
3
Apply liquid termiticide in areas in your home that you think termites are able to access. This will kill or repel any termites that were inside the barrier you just created.
Bait Systems
-
4
Place the bait systems around your home in areas where you believe the termite nest may be located.
-
5
Let the bait system work for several days without interruption. Thereafter, check to see if any termites are entering the bait system. If there are not termites in the bait system, you may want to move the bait system to another location.
-
6
If effective, leave the bait system in the locations you chose. The termiticides in a bait system are usually slow-acting; they will kill termites over time by damaging their nervous system or by affecting their development.

Tips & Warnings
When purchasing liquid termiticides, try purchasing newer products since liquid termiticides can seep into the piping of your home. Newer termiticides are less dangerous to humans.
Bait systems may be preferable if you are concerned about the environmental impact of liquid treatments. Bait systems do not inject any chemicals into the ground and tend to be less expensive.
You can also choose to use a borate treatment if your house has yet to be built. Borate is a chemical that is applied to the wood framing of a house. The borate prevents termites from accessing the wood and causing any damage.
